Papa Bravo MD off to Judge this Year’s Plastic Industry Awards
By Alex 24-09-2020
As part of this year’s annual plastic industry awards, our own MD Alex Pullman will be on the panel judging submissions. We catch up with him to see what it’s all about….
The 2013 Plastic Industry Awards
Each year, the plastics industry comes together to celebrate the achievements and successes of the year in true Oscars-type fashion. The awards offer an insight into the current developments in material usage, product design and innovative manufacturing, as well as drawing attention to the excellent work being undertaken in training and environmental performance by those within the industry.
Altogether there are 15 categories which are judged by professionals within their respective fields, one of which our MD Alex Pullman will be overseeing. Each award provides a great opportunity for supplier companies, OEM manufacturers, plastics processors, consultants and designers to showcase their work undertaken during the year. Gaining a place within an award category is a success in itself, with competition being high amongst the various industrial sectors.
With his expertise in polymer technology and application within production, Alex will be judging the category of supplier partnership-polymer distribution. The finalists have already been announced, so now it will be down to Alex to assess each company thoroughly to decide who should receive the coveted award.
We caught up with Alex to get some of his thoughts and insights of the annual event….
Congratulations on being asked to become a judge for one of the awards at this year’s plastic industry awards. Is this the first time you’ve been asked?
‘Thank you! It’s great to be asked to judge the work of others, especially within an industry which we’re a part of. Actually no, I’ve been a guest judge within the awards for a few years now. It’s a fantastic occasion, so I’m more than happy to help with it.’
Why have you been asked to judge the supplier partnership-polymer distribution award?
‘Well you’d be surprised how close knit the plastics industry is within the UK, with many people attending the event already knowing one another through their professional careers. I’ve got to know a lot of people across the industry during my time working as a design engineer. Through my time with ts design as well as before, I’ve been heavily involved in working with polymer distributers within a number of industries. Also with our expertise (at ts design) in product design, tool design and manufacture, I am able to draw upon the knowledge we’ve gained as a design consultancy and so effectively relate to the entries for the award.’
The event is now in its 13th year, and proving more popular than ever. What do you think has made it so successful?
‘For an industry that deals in materials and manufacturing it does get viewed as quite brash and grubby! Having an event like this once a year does challenge those preconceptions and shows the industry in a different light. Everyone’s dressed up to impress and the event really is well planned and put together well. Also it’s important for everyone to come together and celebrate one another’s achievements, as is done in other industries. I hope it continues to grow each year!
Whatever Happens, the night is sure to maintain its sense of glamour and excitement in being one of the most eagerly anticipated occasions within the plastics industry. We wish everyone the best of luck!
