Lovejoy Learning had a requirement for Consumer Product Design, they are a start-up company who are specialists within the field of early learning and child development. During 2012, they contacted Papa Bravo to help realise a new product opportunity that they had identified. Through studying child behaviour and learning patterns, the Lovejoy team noticed that children between the ages of 3-6 years often struggled to accurately manipulate a pair of scissors when cutting.
Papa Bravo produced a novel mechanism that could be designed into a pair of children’s scissors. The mechanism, which has been branded as ‘Cut Control Technology’ and is currently ‘patent pending’, restricts the open and close stroke of a pair of scissors. Cut Control Technology prevents the scissors from ever fully closing and fully opening; allowing a child to maintain a better level of control over the scissors.
Throughout this project, we worked closely with Lovejoy Learning in order to turn their initial idea into a fully manufactured item that was fit for the shop shelf. In addition to the product design aspect of this project; ts design were also responsible for creating a unique product brand and designing a sustainable method of packaging the product so that it could be on an international scale.
